For many people, the transition from being someone's friend to being their manager can be a challenging task, with a lot of potentially awkward situations, but there are ways you can make this transition less painful. Moving from being ‘one of the boys’ to being their manager can potentially damage your reputation as a manager and/or your relationships with those who were previously your teammates.

So, if you do get that promotion, what can you do? It can be difficult to change the dynamic and it's sure to be uncomfortable for you at times - especially during the beginning - but there are ways you can make it easier.

The Taste 4 Success Skillnet started out with a small group of 16 companies in 1999 based in the north west of Ireland, and since then it has grown its membership to over four hundred active members across a national base.

Upskill Webinar-Ian Henderson- Moving from mate to manager

Ian Henderson

In a career spanning over 25 years as a corporate trainer, facilitator and coach, Ian has worked with people from many blue chip organisations in the UK, US and Europe including Robert Bosch, Premier Foods, United Biscuits, MSC, Network Rail, Siemens, Vodafone, Halliburton and The Home Office.

Ian works across many subject areas, but he specialises in leadership and management development, focusing on issues such as communication, change management and behavioural and attitudinal change. He holds an MBA and is a qualified NLP practitioner and coach. He is also an accredited DiSC profiler. Ian has an enthusiastic style of facilitation that is highly challenging, yet highly supportive of those he works with.

Apart from his role as the Director of Training at Eagle Training, Ian is also a keynote speaker of some repute. He is noted for his enthusiastic, entertaining and informative speaking style. He is the author of over 50 articles and Algenon’s Story, his first book, was published in 2008. Ian has appeared on CNBC’s Money Wheel television programme and has frequently been a guest on local radio. During the COVID-19 pandemic he has also appeared as a guest panellist on webinars.
